This month, the Orcas Island Library features work by two artists, Erin Earl Moonbrick and Zoe Osenbach.
Earl’s triptych, “Background Radiation,” is an abstract work painted in acrylics. Earl writes: “The paintings and drawings I’ve made during the last decade have largely been a meditative therapy for me as a creator. When overwhelmed with the state of the world I’ve found peace in the interplay of pattern, line, and invented language.
My hope is that the viewer too will discover a sense of calm in these cryptic, often maximalist and chaotic offerings.”
Erin Earl Moonbrick has been active in bands and art collectives in LA, NYC, and Seattle since the early 80s. As a permanent resident of Orcas Island he co-directs a budding center for radical art, ecology, and therapy with his friends, wife, and son Castle.
Zoe has been working in mixed media art, working with found/used/recycled objects to give them new life. As she wrote: “I find creative freedom in the limitation to working with what I can find at the Exchange, or in friends’ trash cans. So many interesting things lie beneath the plastic exterior of objects we are told to use, briefly, then discard.”
Zoe Osenbach graduated from The Evergreen State College with a BA in photography. She has since had art exhibitions in Olympia, Seattle, Whidbey Island, and her home, Orcas Island.
