Fundraising concert: Orcas Christian School Chapel, Sunday, June 2, 1:30 p.m.

— from Kimberley Kimple —

TJ Liblik first picked up a violin when he was just five years old. With the guidance of the Orcas Island School District strings program and support from the Music Advocacy Group, TJ’s passion for playing blossomed.

From living room sessions and small island concerts to larger mainland competitions – including a performance at Carnegie Hall, 14-year old TJ’s resume continues to grow.

“I just love to play,” he shares while fingering away at notes. TJ began practicing viola two years ago and has since added an acoustic guitar to the mix.

Early last fall TJ was nominated to submit an application to the Honors Performance Series – a program that showcases highly talented youth musicians from around the world. A carefully chosen arrangement, practiced tirelessly and played out precisely, made its way to the ears of an expert board of music professionals.

After a long and eager winter, TJ received a letter inviting him to play at London’s Royal Festival Hall this summer where he will have the opportunity to rehearse under internationally acclaimed conductors, participate in culture immersion, and ultimately perform in the world-class concert hall July 20.

“We are so proud of his dedication,” shares TJ’s mother, Debbie, who cites TJ has practiced late into many nights honing his technique.

The Liblik family has worked diligently to tuck and save where possible. Travel and participation are not covered by the program, and with costs coming in at nearly $11k, this devoted young man is doing his part to get there.

TJ is holding a concert in the Orcas Christian School Chapel on Sunday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. to raise funds for his trip. He invites all to attend and shares that entry is by donation.
