The San Juan County Council is has begun the search for a Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC) member from Orcas Island to succeed 18-year veteran board member Ed Sutton, who resigned this week.

FAC is a committee established by state law to advise the Department of Transportation’s Ferry division concerning the County’s service needs and preferences as well as weighing in on fares and a variety of other issues that affect ferry users.

San Juan County’s FAC is comprised of one member from each of the four ferry-served islands, plus three members representing the County Council, commercial users, and tourism-related users.

FAC Co-Chair Jim Corenman describes the ideal candidate as, “someone who is interested in ferries, works well as part of a group with diverse interests and priorities, and is able to spend the required time.”  The committee meets monthly and holds periodic special meetings and appearances with Washington State Ferries and others, both on and off-island.

To apply for the consideration, or to get more information about FAC, go to the County website: sanjuanco.com/council/CommitteeVacancies.   An application for committee membership is available online, or you can call Maureen See at 378-2898 or email maureens@sanjuanco.com.

The FAC maintains a website which contains information about recent activity and issues at: https://sanjuanco.com/fac
