Sunday, March 11, 4:30-6:00 p.m., Deer Harbor Community Center
from Gretchen Krampf
In recent weeks we have seen significant community engagement at meetings called, inviting Orcas residents to learn more about pending environmental impact and COA, lingering legal disputes impacting local property owners and communications about Friends of the San Juans. It is encouraging to see a higher level of citizen engagement and an increased awareness of the desire for greater civility in our engaging with one another. Intelligent, diverse and engaged residents hold the greatest potential for our continuing creation of a thriving community.
The Orcas Community Council holds a space for us to explore what is on the hearts and minds of Orcas Islanders. These monthly gatherings are an opportunity to share and learn more from one another. We invite you to attend the next Orcas Community Council Circle and Potluck, scheduled for Sunday, March 11th at the Deer Harbor Community Center. The Council meets from 4:30-6:00PM and is followed by a Potluck with Purpose until 7:30. Participant donations help cover the cost of the meeting space; place settings and refreshments are provided and all islanders are invited to come and bring a salad, entrée or dessert to share.
The OCC, a project of Thrive Orcas Island, uses the PeerSpirit model of community engagement and is facilitated by alumni of Leadership San Juan Islands. More information is available at www.peerspirit.com. Carpooling is encouraged. Call Gretchen at 360-317-8220 for additional information.
