The mammoth St. Mark’s Cathedral, visible from I-5 on Capitol Hill in Seattle, rang out with the strains of the Orcas Choral Society on Sunday, April 28. OCS Director Roger Sherman conducted nearly all the Choral Society members, guest soloists and a 20-piece orchestra.

Professional soprano, and Orcas resident, Sharon Abreu stood out among the soloists as her clear soaring notes filled St. Mark’s.

Orcas instrumentalists Joe Boucher, Joe Babcock, Steve Alboucq, Marianne Lewis and Craig Canine performed again as they had at the Orcas Center performance the previous Sunday. Molly Johnson, who played tenor trombone at the Orcas concert, was ill and unable to play at St. Mark’s.

Members of the choir had a brief “flashmob” reprise of parts of the “Requiem” on the evening ferry back to the island.

The Choral Society will meet again Tuesday, April 30 for its annual meeting and get-together before adjourning until next fall. For further information go to Orcas Choral Society, or email info@orcaschoralsociety.org.
