Saturday, February 10, 7:30 p.m., Orcas Center

— from Susannah Weaver for Orcas Center —

Orcas Center is proud to present Heart of Song: Women Songwriters in the Round as local Singer/Songwriters Melody Funk, Mandy Troxel, Susan Osborn, and Carolyn Cruso will perform solo and together in a songwriter-in-the round concert on Saturday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Join these Orcas Island songwriters for a special night of original songs at Orcas Center’s Center Stage. Come see these soulful women share their stories through song in this unique in-the-round format. The Songwriter in the Round format is a magical way to see and hear multiple songwriters share their musical stories. Reminiscent of sitting at a festival campfire while a guitar gets passed around, each performer is inspired by the one before, set selections shift to reflect what was played by the preceding artist, and occasional harmonies and instrumental accompaniment are offered as enhancement.

In addition to multiple guitars, there will be piano, keyboard, bass, flute, and ukulele. While all the performers are similar in that they are island female singer/songwriters, they represent a wonderful diversity of style. The range in their various approaches to songwriting is a result of individual musical influences, and how each artist uses her craft to tell stories about and evoke images of people, places, and experiences. These poetic narratives span the full spectrum from the ordinary to the mysterious. Come see these four compelling female songwriters perform both solo and together at Orcas Center Saturday night, February 10 at 7:30 pm on Center Stage.

Tickets for Heart of Song are $19, $15 for students, $2 off for Orcas Center members.
