— from Susannah Weaver for Orcas Center —

Celebrate the season in December with the truly beloved holiday favorite A Christmas Carol in December and Good Lovelies in concert on Center Stage in January. A Christmas Carol will run for five performances, December 13-17, 7:30 pm with a Saturday matinee on December 16 at 2:00 pm. Orcas Center welcomes Good Lovelies back to Center Stage on January 18, 7:30 pm.

Beginning December 13 Orcas Center will feature the traditional island version of A Christmas Carol with Melinda Milligan directing an all-island cast in the beloved play we’ve been seeing for many years, with the same heartwarming original music composed by Jim Bredouw, plus the addition of some new and exciting twists. Expect surprises as Scrooge, Marley, and the three Ghosts come to life before you. The message of the play, that we all have the power to become kinder, wiser, and more generous towards our fellow human beings, is as timeless and important as ever. Come spend a holiday evening (or matinee) with Scrooge and friends to listen to uplifting music, laugh, have fun with your neighbors, and feel inspired to make our lives better. Bring the whole family for a heartwarming night of theatre. We hope you will join us for the reception following the Opening Night production of A Christmas Carol on Wednesday, December 13. On Friday, December 15 there will be a limited number of dinner and a show tickets available for $75. Orcas Center, Matia Dinner Series and Doe Bay Wine Company co-host this exclusive holiday dinner for A Christmas Carol at 5:00 pm in the Madrona Room.

Audiences have been falling in love with the Good Lovelies for over ten years now. Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore rely on impeccable vocals, accomplished musicianship, winsome songwriting and on stage banter drawn from a seemingly endless succession of comedic adventures on the road and at home. Winners of the 2010 Juno Award for Roots Album of the Year, and 4-time Canadian Folk Music Awards winners, the trio will be bringing material from their upcoming folk/pop album Shapeshifters to Center Stage. Get your tickets now—bring the whole family for an unforgettable night at the theatre in December and a smoking hot concert in January.
