— from Orcas Animal Shelter Board —
The Orcas Animal Protection Society Board is delighted to introduce our new Shelter Director, Kristina Snyder. Kristina recently moved to Orcas from Montesano, WA with her husband, Cameron, and their dogs, Niko and Loki. Kristina served as Executive Director at PAWS of Grays Harbor, a busy animal shelter where she worked with a large and diverse community. She will be working with retiring Director Marsha Waunch for several weeks during a period of transition.
Since the Orcas Animal Protection Society opened its doors in 2002, it has been the place to come to adopt a dog or cat, find help with cremation of a beloved pet who has passed, have some kitten cuddle therapy, or for help searching for a lost cat or dog. We also help with those who need lower cost spay or neuter for their pets.
We welcome Kristina to our Orcas community and look forward to working with her as the Shelter continues to advocate for animals in need.

I’m sure this new director is a wonderful person, but was there really no one already living on the island with the qualifications to be hired? So many people seem to leave or suffer from lack of adequate employment that it seems hiring from on-island should be a priority. But perhaps I am in the minority with this opinion…
