Ongoing San Juan County search for next local health officer

The County is requesting statements of qualifications from licensed physicians experienced in public health/local Health Officer duties

Last month, San Juan County opened a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for qualified candidates interested in serving as the County’s next Local Health Officer.

This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is extended to any qualified physician that meets the minimum qualifications and has the required experience:

1. Experienced physician licensed to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery in the state of Washington.

2. Hold a degree of Master of Public Health or its equivalent.

• Experienced physicians licensed to practice medicine in WA state, but not holding the qualification of a Master of Public Health degree, may be provisionally qualified by virtue of completing three years of service as a provisionally qualified officer during which time they participate in an in-service orientation program and periodic reviews with the state Secretary of Health or designee. 3. Five years’ experience in the field of public health is preferred

Responsible for maintaining the health and well-being of the community, the County’s Local Health Officer works in coordination and consultation with the Washington State Department of Health, San Juan County Board of Health, Health & Community Services staff, and with local organizations, such as schools and medical clinics/centers, to ensure the health and safety of county residents.
