||| FROM BRENDAN COWAN for ISLANDS’ OIL SPILL ASSOCIATION |||

This spring nearly 50 islanders have become trained spill response volunteers with the Islands’ Oil Spill Association (IOSA). Recent classes on Orcas and Lopez Islands have helped to add to the robust team of committed local residents who have stepped forward to protect our community in the event of a spill.

The final spring classes are being offered in Friday Harbor in April and May. IOSA has been working to keep the islands safe for more than thirty years, and depends on community volunteers for their support.

The one day introductory class will be held on May 1.

The three day class for those with a strong commitment to the effort will be April 29 – May 1.

And the six hour wildlife response training for all levels of volunteers will be held on May 20.
