||| FROM BEN LUNA for ORCAS ISLAND FIRE & RESCUE |||
At 10:45 AM on Friday, May 9 Orcas Fire responded to reports of a fire in the Buckhorn Road area. The initial fire report came from a vessel off the north shore.
Chief Kimple was first to arrive on scene and confirm that a one story residence was on fire. Two fire engines arrived and began defensive attack of the surrounding homes and wildland. There were no injuries and all pets were saved.
OIFR extends appreciation to the vehicles which were stopped from driving on Buckhorn Road while fire operations were underway. The road closure was due to connections to the fire hydrant and hose needing to be laid across Buckhorn.
And OIFR wishes to thank the many volunteers and community members who assisted.

We live about 3 houses away and we are so grateful for the quick response of the fire department!
We are very sad for our neighbors, the Looney family, and hope that lots of folks will contribute to the Go Fund Me that Stepanie Moss set up.
I love this community so much. Within a couple of days, we have collectively well exceeded the request of this beautiful family to help them transition during this difficult time. They have given so much to us. It is now our turn to help them in this moment of need.
