Water taxi service between islands now available year-round

Captain Hobbes Buchanan has been offering weeknight water taxi service from Friday Harbor to Orcas and Shaw Islands since August, and is now expanding his services.

Weeknight sailings depart Spring Street Landing at 5:15 p.m. and arrive at Orcas Village ferry landing at approximately 5:40 p.m. and Shaw Island ferry landing/marina at 5:45 p.m. The water taxi arrives back in Friday Harbor at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. per person, one way. “Orcas and Shaw commuters have been thrilled with my new services because they can now get home after a long day at work at a decent hour,” said Captain Hobbes.

Water taxi services are available 7 days a week, year round, to all islands and the mainland including Anacortes, Bellingham, Pt. Roberts, etc. Service to B.C. is coming next year. Captain Hobbes also operates year-round whale and wildlife tours out of Friday Harbor, 7 days a week.

The vessel, Natsilane, is a 30′, fast, comfortable, stable, all-weather boat with a heated cabin, restroom, and seating for 6 inside or outside. Natsilane has U.S. Coast Guard approved safety equipment onboard as well as state-of-the-art equipment for fog and night-time navigation. Captain Hobbes has over 40 years of maritime experience and is licensed in both the U.S. and England on ocean-going vessels. He has been plying the waters of the San Juan Islands for over 12 years.
