Orcas High School teacher Gerald Grellet-Tinner, convicted in June of Sexual Misconduct following a report of sexual relations with a student, has been released from jail pending a new trial to be held in December 2016.
The ruling was issued today by Judge Donald Eaton in San Juan County Superior Court, following a motion from Grillet-Tinner and his defense attorney, Robert Butler of Bellingham.
The victim, who was 19 at the time of the alleged incident, told an advocate in July that she had also participated in a sexual relationship with the lead investigator from San Juan County Sheriff’s Office in the original Sexual Misconduct case. The victim is now 20.
Further information will be reported as it becomes available. Neither Prosecutor Randy Gaylord nor Attorney Butler were available for comment at press time.
