Thian Armenia graduated Orcas Island High School this year, and for his Senior Project, he wanted to gift the community with a sculpture donated to the Orcas Center – where he has spent a lot of time volunteering on and off stage.

Orcas and other marine life are common subjects around here, so to be different he made a beautiful blue heron out of metal — copper and steel. He cut and hammered a galvanized steel pipe into feathers, and formed the body and head from copper etching sheets his father, Michael, gave him.

Thank you, Thian – for this beautiful work of art that will live on in our community, and for the many hours of dedication and joy you have brought to Orcas Center.

We wish you all the best in your new adventures.
