Island Primary Care – Orcas Medical Director, Dr. Frank James and Radiology Technician, Joy Cartisser are pictured with Ms. Fannie O’Leary beside the Orcas Island Health Care District’s new X-ray machine at the Island Health Primary Care – Orcas clinic.

A new X-ray machine at the Orcas Clinic was made possible through a generous gift to the community by Ms. O’Leary, a local resident whose caring will continue serving this community for many years to come. She made the donation after observing that it should not be necessary for her neighbors to make a trip to the mainland to get an X-ray and also in recognition of the excellent service provided by Dr. Michael Alperin.

With this new resource, Island Primary Care – Orcas can provide routine imaging services to its patients and as a professional courtesy to other medical practices on the island by appointment most afternoons.

Since its installation in April 2021, the machine has produced more than 1,100 radiographic images (X-rays). It produces digital images allowing providers to view images quickly and to share them with mainland radiologists and specialists for consultations without delay.

The Orcas Island Health Care District is extremely grateful for this important gift and for the employees and volunteers who are working to improve health care on Orcas.
