Congratulations to Mr. Lily, our first ever feline mayor! Committed to “embracing island life, where everyone is a friend”, we’re confident Mr. Lily is the purrr-fect candidate to fill this honorary role. After faithfully fulfilling her duties, Sweet Girl Love handed off the key to the city to Mr. Lily’s campaign manager, Reagan Hastings, on Saturday, July 1st, following Eastsound’s Annual Fourth of July Parade.

This year’s race included three dogs, a cat, duck, and heifer/steer duo. Jemima puddle-duck was quite popular amongst the children, while Big Red and Mr. Blue Sky had some big supporters. Although they were “outstanding in their field”, the dynamic duo had a late start and could not cat-ch up to Mr. Lily, whose team was determined to make hissss-tory as the first ever feline mayor.

Over $30,000 was raised during this year’s Mayoral Campaign, which supports Orcas Island Children’s House, a toddler learning center and preschool located in Eastsound, WA. Each dollar helps ensure they can provide quality early education to island children, regardless of their ability to pay.

Children’s House would like to thank all campaign managers and constituents for running a great race and for helping raise awareness and money for their program. They would like to especially thank the owners and staff at the Orcas Hotel and Arnt Driftwood Ranch for going above and beyond this year. Orcas Island Children’s House is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
