It isn’t often that the National Weather Services issues a high wind advisory for the islands in mid-May, but that’s exactly what they’ve done for 5am to 8pm on Wednesday.

…WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 8 PM PDT WEDNESDAY…

* WHAT…South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.

* WHERE…San Juan County, Western Whatcom County, Western Skagit County and Admiralty Inlet Area.

* WHEN…From 5 AM to 8 PM PDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

While this sort of forecast is relatively routine during the winter, it’s unusual for this time of year. Islanders are asked to keep the weather in mind, especially anyone who has a boat in the water. Please take the time to double check your lines and anchors and make sure your boat is secure from strong southerly winds.
