After completing a bookbinding class, I found myself with a beautiful abundance of decorative paper scraps. Around the same time, I rediscovered a mirror from my childhood that was badly in need of care. Inspired by the challenge, I covered the damaged frame with book cloth to create a clean slate. I then arranged the paper scraps onto wax paper, allowing me to experiment with color combinations before committing them to the frame. Once the composition felt right, I applied multiple layers of lacquer to seal the porous materials and assembled the final piece.
My mirrors are a direct reflection of my joy for color, paper, and balance.
This current series leans into a more free-form aesthetic. I am intentionally pushing past my historically regimented process to create without constraints. Letting go isn’t as easy as it sounds, but I am truly enjoying the challenge.
