||| FROM LYNN BAKER for ORCAS CHORAL SOCIETY |||
If you love music, come expand your understanding as Bruce Langford, music educator and Artistic Director of Orcas Choral Society, offers a free lecture, “How to Listen to Music,” 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, at Orcas Island Public Library. The April 3 talk was the first of three in a series, “Speaking Music: The International Language.” The remaining lectures are at the library on Wednesdays at 5 p.m., May 8 and 15.
“Everyone hears music, but few listen to it,” Langford said. “How can they when no one has ever taught them how to do it? Come discover how music changes our moods.”
“Bruce teaches through jokes, stories, and examples,” said Choral Society singer Pam Evans. “We have a great time in rehearsals. I’m looking forward to the lectures.”
“To say that music is the international language is no exaggeration,” Langford said. “We’ll explore its history and inner workings and discover new tonal adventures.”
Bruce Langford has performed with and conducted vocal and instrumental ensembles throughout the United States, Europe and Australia and held principal roles in more than 50 theatrical productions. He served more than 25 years as Professor of Music History and Voice at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif.
He next directs Orcas Choral Society in its spring concert, Songs of Shadow and Light, at the Orcas Center, May 18 and 19.
