Lions Club Health Screening Unit will be outside Island Market on Monday and Tuesday, sponsored by the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing.
The unit screens for blood sugar levels (for potential Diabetes), blood pressure, visual acuity, eye pressure (for signs of Glaucoma) and hearing. The test takes about 15 minutes and is free.

Tuesday, March 24
River Malcolm offers a free hour-long orientation in the Solution Method, a neuroscience-based program developed at University of California at San Francisco. Participants will learn about the 5-point system to monitor stress and tools that help rewire the brain to favor joy over stress; those interested can enroll in the next 4-week ‘Wired For Joy’ class, scheduled for mid-April. The class includes a workbook, four 90-minute classes, and three months of access to the Solution Method website for $200. Scholarships are available. Relay For Life of Orcas Island 2009
Anyone interested is asked to come to the next meeting March 24 at 6:00 pm in the Homegrown meeting room upstairs. We need the whole community to get involved in whatever way they feel fits them best. Auditions for PlayFest ’09 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Grange No Experience necessary! The PlayFest is a great opportunity to see what it is like to be on stage. The time commitment is minimal: six to eight rehearsals, a couple of technical and dress rehearsals and four performances. There are roles for men and women from 9 to 90 years old.

Master Class for Strings and “Monique in Performance” from 7 to 9 pm at the Community Church. As guest Musician-in-Residence, Monique Mead provides Master Class opportunities for community musicians, as well as working with public school students and their teachers.
The public is invited to observe Master Classes on both Tuesday and Wednesday night and enjoy Mead’s violin solo with island strings accompaniment. Admission is by donation at the door; students are free. Registration for the coaching session is required. Please call Victoria Parker @ 376-6636.

Orcas Middle School Spaghetti Dinner
The Annual Spaghetti Dinner will be held at the Orcas School Cafeteria with two seatings, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The dinner, sponsored by Island Market, supports middle school activities throughout the year. Tickets are available from any middle school student or at the door.

PTSA Rollerskate Last night for this season. Dress up theme and prizes.
Early skate (beginners and 8 and under) from 6 to 7 p.m. General skate 7 to 9 p.m. in the Elementary/Middle School gym. Cost is $2 per person per hour and include skate rental. Call Dawn Light 376-4530 or Barb Skotte 376-3930 to volunteer.

Saturday, March 28

8th Annual Funhouse Science Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Funhouse on Orcas Island. All school-age children are welcome to participate, and the fair is free and open to the public. $2,000 awarded in the form of three scholarships to the top prize-winning high school students. Awards and science prizes will also be given to all participants. 376-7177.

Orcas High School Advanced Placement European Class will put on a Roman Feast at the Orcas Center as a fundraiser.This event will feature Entertainment, Silent Auction, and a multi-course gourmet dinner with wine.  Suggested donation is $40 per person.Call Kathy at 376-2284 for more information

Children’s House sponsors the first Family Dance Night at the Odd Fellows Hall from 6 to 8 p.m.There will be a bake sale and refreshments and costumes are encouraged.
All proceeds of this fundraiser will directly support the four preschools involved in Orcas Family Connections. The suggested donation for entry is one for $4, two for $6 and $10 for three or more. 376-4744.
