Orcas Middle School Spaghetti Dinner at the Orcas School Cafeteria with two seatings, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The dinner, sponsored by Island Market, supports middle school activities throughout the year. Tickets are available from any middle school student or at the door.

PTSA Rollerskate Pajama Night! Those coming in PJs will receive a prize at the last night of skating for this season.
Early skate (beginners and 8 and under) from 6 to 7 p.m. General skate 7 to 9 p.m. in the Elementary/Middle School gym. Cost is $2 per person per hour and include skate rental. Call Dawn Light 376-4530 or Barb Skotte 376-3930 to volunteer.

8th Annual Funhouse Science Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Funhouse on Orcas Island. All school-age children are welcome to participate, and the fair is free and open to the public. $2,000 awarded in the form of three scholarships to the top prize-winning high school students. Awards and science prizes will also be given to all participants. 376-7177.

Orcas High School’s Advanced Placement European Class will perform a narrated version of Voltaire’s play  Candide in “An Afternoon in the Drawing Room” from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Living Room. An $8 donation is suggested for this  fundraiser for the group’s 10-day tour of Italy from April 6 to 16.  The event will feature some of h the 30 students going on the trip performing, and auction items of student services and artwork and baked goods. Children’s House sponsors the first Family Dance Night at the Odd Fellows Hall from 6 to 8 p.m.There will be a bake sale and refreshments and costumes are encouraged.
All proceeds of this fundraiser will directly support the four preschools involved in Orcas Family Connections. The suggested donation for entry is one for $4, two for $6 and $10 for three or more. 376-4744.

Orcas Island observes lights out from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. as “Earth Hour.” All of the County Government’s office lights and equipment (except for those needed for critical services) will be turned out during earth hour and the Council is encouraging all residents of the County to join in. American Legion Pancake Breakfast 8 a.m to noon at the Legion. Public is welcome to attend

Ride the ferry to Sidney — the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce  is urging Islanders to show their support of the International ferry run (Anacortes – San Juan Islands – Sidney, BC) on the first day of service for the new schedule by making the trip. Islanders are encouraged to walk on the 8:40 a.m. ferry.

The walk-on cost of the round-trip is $32. Passengers will need to present government issued photo ID, such as a drivers’ license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport. The ferry departs Orcas Island at 8:40 am (reservations not needed for walk-ons), arriving at Sidney at 10:45 am.

You will disembark in Sidney, then take the 11:40 am sailing to Friday Harbor, arriving at approximately 1:30 pm. You will disembark, go through Customs, and walk-on the 2:15 pm ferry to Orcas, arriving at approximately 3:00 pm.

A long day, but a more beautiful excursion you can’t find … and it will let everyone know how important this ferry connection is to Orcas Island
