||| FROM BJ ARNOLD for ORCAS ISLAND ARTWORKS |||
Orcas Island Artworks is pleased to announce Maggie Kaplan as the Featured Artist for the Month of July. Maggie has been a member of the Artworks since she arrived on Orcas 35 years ago.
Her love of quilting began as a child when she started sewing along with her mother. She made her first quilt in the seventh grade and went on to explore a wide variety of textile forms but always came back to her love of quilting.
Her “stash” of fabric is sorted by color families, which inspires her to see what can happen within each colorway as she builds traditional blocks for her quilts.
During the covid lockdown Maggie generously used her sewing skills to make thousands of masks, generating $20,000 for the Orcas Senior Center.
Her newest quilt will be on display during the month of July at the Artworks. Orcas Island Artworks, 11 Pt. Lawrence Road, Olga, WA Summer hours 10-5
