Orcas Island Community Church is grateful to announce a $4,000 grant from the Robin DiGeorgio Endowment Fund, stewarded by the Madrona Club of Orcas Island. This generous gift will support the church’s Severe Weather Shelter, which provides emergency overnight shelter for islanders during dangerous winter conditions.

The endowment was established in memory of Robin DiGeorgio—a long-time Orcas Island resident known for her compassion and deep care for the community. Through the fund, the Madrona Club periodically supports local organizations that reflect Robin’s values. This year, the club selected the Severe Weather Shelter for its alignment with her legacy of protecting and uplifting the island’s most vulnerable neighbors.

“We are deeply grateful to the Madrona Club for this generous gift,” said Rev. Brian Moss, Senior Pastor at Orcas Island Community Church. “We’re thankful to play a part in Robin DiGeorgio’s enduring legacy of compassion on Orcas Island. This grant allows us to prepare now — so when the cold returns, our doors can be open to those who need warmth and safety.”

The Severe Weather Shelter operates in partnership with other local nonprofits and relies on the dedication of island volunteers. It opens during severe weather, when temperatures drop below freezing, or when snow and wind conditions become hazardous. The Madrona Club’s grant will replenish essential supplies and provide stipends for trained overnight hosts, helping ensure the shelter can continue offering care and refuge when it is needed most.
