— from Jim Biddick for the Orcas Lions Club —
Santa’s Boat broke down and the Lions will not be able to bring their annual Christmas ship to Orcas Ferry Landing on Sunday, Dec. 13 as planned.
The visit, which had been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Orcas Ferry Landing, is a Lions’ tradition for nearly 20 years.
The Orcas Lions Club would like to thank the community for its support during the year, which allows us to bring the ship to island as well as assisting in other community activities. We especially want to thank the Russell’s for their support in providing refreshment for all those that come to meet the ship. The Lion’s Club meets on Wednesday at 12:00 pm at the Legion Hall and we invite you to attend to see what the Lions are all about. During the months of November to April we meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday’s and from May through October we meet every Wednesday. For more information about the Lions, what we do, how you can help or how to become a member, contact us at 1-888-698-6607 or email OrcasIslandLions@aol.com.

DOES SANTA HAVE A REINDEER AKA DRAFT HORSE HANDY TO BRING THE SHIP’S BOUNTY OVERLAND??
So sorry to hear the bad news. The Santa ship will be missed here on Blakely Island. The Lions do an amazing job and bring a lot of happiness to island kids that don’t get to see Santa. It’s always fun seeing all 60 or so costumed volunteers file off the boat and up the pier. The whole community here (15?) turns out for the ship and we put on quite a feast for all of them. Hmmm, what to do with the turkeys, ham, chili, cookies, pies, cider, etc? Guess we’ll have to have a party anyway:-))
