This Monday, March 23rd and Tuesday, March 24th, the Orcas Island Lions Club will operate the Health Screening Van, which is sponsored by the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing.
The unit screens for blood sugar levels (for potential Diabetes), blood pressure, visual acuity, eye pressure (for signs of Glaucoma) and hearing.
Vice-Chair Karen of the Lions Club Screening Unit, Hiller emphasizes, “We are NOT diagnosticians! When we get an abnormal reading, we refer that person to the health care provider of their choice for follow-up. We do NOT try to tell the person what’s wrong and how to treat the problem!”
Please pass this information on to your family, friends, and neighbors, particularly those who are reluctant to check up on their health, adds Hiller. This service is free and takes only about 15 minutes of their time.
The Van will be located in front of Island Market, on Prune Alley. “We hope to see you there,” says Hiller.
