— from David Turnoy, Member of the A*OK Crew —
Art for Orcas Kids (A-OK), dedicated to bringing art programming into the public elementary and middle schools since 1998, would like to offer a grateful “thank you” to the Orcas Island Community Foundation and to all those individuals who donated to A-OK during the recent OICF fundraising campaign. Our group could not continue to do this important work without the support of the community.
This year A-OK has expanded its programs in the elementary school to bring 16 weeks of art instruction to every classroom. With no art teacher in elementary or middle schools, A-OK fills a critical need in the education of our children. We believe that it is important to educate the whole child, and this can only be realized with opportunities for children to participate in the arts. A-OK is committed to making this happen, and we welcome the continued support of parents, grandparents, and other community members who understand the importance of art in child development. A-OK is a program of the Orcas Island Education Foundation, and if you happened to miss the recent campaign, you can still contribute to A-OK through the OIEF website.
