I am an archery hunter and was drawn for a second deer permit on Orcas Island. There are small sections of public land available to hunt but I was curious as to if there are landowners who frequent The Orcasonian that would allow me to hunt on their land for a few days early in December?
Do you allow a letter to the editor asking a question like this on your site? If not, no worries – thank you for your time!
I just want to find a respectful way to ask this question to the community.

Hope someone allows you to hunt. The deer population needs to be managed and hunting is the best way to do it. You might contact WDFW, I think they have a program that pays private property owners to allow people to hunt. Good luck!
It’s heartening to see that the Orcasonian published your request seeking a private property owner who will allow you to hunt on their land. Thank you Lin. And thank you John Davidson for your supportive comment.
Thank you Lin/The Orcasonian and to the residents of Orcas Island who have graciously responded to my query. I had originally contacted the WDFW for what they had secured for the 2020 season but felt the need to explore other options as well. I completely respect the fact that hunting can be viewed through different lenses. I just wanted to find a tactful way to communicate my request to a special community who wrestles with the unique tension of limited public land opportunities versus an abundance of deer.
