||| FROM EMILIO SANTIAGO |||
This is a rallying cry to my fellow San Juan Islanders! I enthusiastically support Katherine Bryant Ingman for San Juan County Council, and I hope you will too. District 3 covers Lopez, Shaw, and Decatur, but we all know that our County Council’s decisions affect the entire archipelago.
When I think about the future of the Council and the future of the County, representation and decision making by Katherine feels crucial for our growth. And, there is much to be excited about! I have gotten to know Katherine personally over the last few years as I began to spend more time on Lopez Island (and you should, too).
Looking around Lopez, Katherine’s impact can be felt everywhere. Katherine’s experience positions her in an extraordinarily unique confluence between food justice (Lopez Food Share), housing (Housing Lopez), transportation (the ferry Schedule Task Force), rural healthcare (Catherine Washburn Medical Association, SJC Health Network Convening), and youth services (Prevention Coalition, athletic direction).
Have you read her candidate statements? Have you seen her other endorsements? Have you heard what she has spoken about in forums and at events? Katherine is who I want at the table as the County enters into future discussions about the environment, budgeting, our working families, our connection to/with the mainland, and the other complexities that have revealed themselves in recent times.
As someone who cares deeply about ethics in our politics, I’ll say that I would rest a little bit easier at night knowing that Katherine will be working on the issues that we face as a community. We will benefit from her perspective. Katherine represents the future of San Juan County.
