||| FROM LYNNETTE WOOD |||

The third annual rubber duckie “Qwack Wace” was a resounding success, thanks to the generous donations and support from businesses and individuals alike. I would like to thank the following island businesses for sponsoring race ducks: Ace Hardware, Country Corner, Deer Harbor Marina, Dragonfly Coffeehouse, Forest Ceramic Gallery, Island Market, Girl Meets Dirt, Island Pie, Island Skillet, Kerri’s Island Cuts, Kismet, Ladybug Pizza, Naan Stop, Office Cupboard, Orcas Arts & Gifts, Orcas Island Leather Goods, Orcas Museum, Orcas Senior Center, Ray’s Pharmacy, Shearwater Adventures, Speece’s Pieces, Teezer’s Coffee, Terri Williams Realty, Wildlife Cycles and Woody’s Taphouse.

A special thanks goes to the Lions Club for their significant donation, made separately from the Qwack Wace event.

I am grateful as well to the many individuals who contributed, sponsored ducks, or volunteered their time and effort, and to everyone who participated in this fun event. A special shout out goes to Mark King, who conceptualized, designed and built the Qwack Wace racetrack, and to Rob Wilson, who assisted in assembling and disassembling this impressive structure. Their creativity, hard work and dedication is what has made this event possible.

This year’s event raised nearly $2,500. The fund, established in 2022 in memory of Kenneth Gibbs—a respected figure in the gamma-ray astrophysics community and a beloved Library volunteer known to most islanders simply as “Ken”—continues to honor his memory.
