— from Norm Zimlich —
The United States Postal Service is being sabotaged by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, in support of President Trump’s quixotic and self-serving campaign to undercut and discredit voting-by-mail in the coming General Election.
DeJoy’s postal slowdown strategy became more overt last week with the removal and destruction of hundreds of USPS mail collection boxes and letter-sorting machines across the country. His demolition derby coincides with the imminent onset of mail balloting for the November 2020 elections, as well as with the Congressional Recess.
Just as every US citizen has adjusted to the Pandemic, our Senators and
Representatives need to adjust their recess schedule and drag this rogue federal Postmaster General and USPS Directors into public testimony, while the evidence of their disenfranchisement campaign is fresh. State Attorneys General should also prosecute election subversion, particularly in states like Washington with 100% vote- by-mail. But Congressmen of both parties can halt DeJoy’s blatant nationwide election subversion assault in its tracks NOW.
In 2009 we the people of Orcas Island, with the help of our Congressional delegation, won a local battle to save the Deer Harbor Post Office. Now we the people of the entire country must enjoin Congressmen of both parties to prevent this sabotage of the USPS from derailing the most important election in our lifetimes. After all, along with the U.S. Armed Forces, the U.S. State Department, and the other federal agencies, the U.S. Postal Service is the People’s institution, and not any politician’s personal workforce.

According to the USPS inspector general, collection boxes are eliminated when they’re not being used because they’re expensive to maintain. If a collection boxes has less than 25 pieces of mail per day, those are the boxes that are being eliminated.
In September 2016, the USPS inspector general noted that “Nationally, the number of collection boxes declined by more than 12,000 in the past 5 years.” This means that the USPS, during the Obama-Biden administration, removed thousands of mail collection boxes. Was this a diabolical plan by Obama and Biden to suppress the vote in 2020? Did Trump make them do it?

Things You Can Do to Help
1. Louis DeJoy, major Trump donor and the new head of the Postal Service, has been slowing the mail and removing mailboxes. Both New Jersey and Arizona are pressing criminal indictments against Trump, DeJoy, and other on charges of election tampering. Contact Attorney General Bob Ferguson to do that in Washington, or contact your representative and senator.
2. Tell Congressman Larsen that DeJoy should be impeached. The Postal inspector general is already looking into complaints against DeJoy. Congress should hold hearings.

I am confused. Mr. Chadwell, if Mr. Zimlich and Mr. Turnoy are correct, the USPS is doomed by President Trump. Are their concerns just fake histeria? Mr. Turnoy and Mr. Zimlich, if Mr Chadwell is correct the USPS, while losing money, would be able to handle the mail in elections and in fact many of the mail box removals occurred during President Obama’s administration. Is Mr. Chadwell’s information fake news? You both can not be right????
Mr. Chadwell is correct about the mail boxes. The Postal Service has been a poorly run operation for decades. The new Post Master General was appointed to make it operate efficiently and make the appropriate changes to stop loosing billions of tax payer dollars every year. All this talk about ‘voter suppression’ because of the postal service is a bunch of hooey and lies. The problem with mail in ballots is the method. In Washington the voters are ‘qualified’ and their ballots are verified – no problem. The states that are planning to just mail ballots to everyone ‘so called’ registered to vote is rife with fraud possibilities – there is no accountability.
Putting aside your poor spelling (“loosing”) and grammar (“the states . . . is) for the moment, Mr. Waunch, what is your evidence for your last statement? Or is it just your conjecture?
Let’s save attacking people you don’t agree with for the TV, hum?
Just the facts, Ma’am (and Sir). I have noticed that the mail that I send has slowed. People who receive medications by mail have a right to be concerned.
I get my prescriptions via mail and this month they are a week late!!! I had to get a prescription from the doctor here to fill at Rays! I hate to think what will happen to my ballot!
Let’s think for a moment about the suggestion that the post office is wasting millions of tax payer dollars. Two points: first, the post office delivers and collects mail from very small towns and rural mail boxes; second, I am unaware of any mandate that and other governmental agency is expected to be a cost center. The idea that private enterprise would/could take over the functions of the post office and actually make money is ludicrous. Rural mail delivery cannot be done at a profit without drastically increasing postage rates.
To my mind, the post office is an excellent example of a service provided by the government—one of many. And yes, that’s why we all pay taxes. I would like to see this long-running attack on the post office reversed. This is another example of the far right effort to “starve the beast”. Enough, already.
