I am writing in support of my friend Stephanie O’Day. I have known her for 30+ years, as both a friend, fellow volunteer and as an employee. Stephanie is very reasonable and fair and always tries to find the middle ground in any dispute. She would be a great mediator!
Her working knowledge of many of the county departments through her law work will be invaluable as a county councilperson. We need someone who knows the inner workings of county government and she has that in spades!
As for being “in charge of the county budget,” she has informed me that is the job of the county manager and it’s the council’s job to hire that manager and oversee and approve the budget once it has been worked out by each department, not to micromanage where every dollar is spent but instead to be able to look at the bigger picture of how the budget cuts or increases will affect the citizens of this county. She has already reviewed the 381 page current budget and has a working understanding of it.
In short, she is intelligent, compassionate, cares about our island and is willing to resign from her 30 year law practice to represent all of us. I ask you that you give her a chance to do just that, protect the Island Way of Life. VOTE FOR STEPHANIE O’DAY FOR COUNTY COUNCIL POSITION 1.
