On November 3, you will vote for a councilmember to fill the District 3 seat I am vacating this year.
We are fortunate to have two capable candidates, and I have worked with both. Jennifer Swanson and I served on the Ferry Advisory Committee (’23, ’24), and I engaged with her as a Shaw Island constituent on Shaw-specific issues. With Katherine Bryant Ingman, I worked on the WSF Schedule Re-write Task Force (’23-25) and I engaged with her as President of the Catherine Washburn Medical Association on Lopez Island.
Both have put enormous effort into their campaigns. While District 3 includes Shaw – most of the constituency lives on Lopez. Many things differentiate Katherine and Jennifer – their backgrounds, age, work experience – but the most salient issue for me is that only one of them truly ‘knows and understands’ Lopez Island and our unique day-to-day issues. That is Katherine.
On leadership, I have witnessed how Katherine stepped into challenging issues, sought solutions, and brought about change, on Lopez and throughout the county.
On policy, I have a clear idea of Katherine’s positions on key issues we face and believe she would bring a new, forward-looking and thoughtful perspective to our county’s problems.
District 3 deserves an independent-thinking and engaged councilmember based on Lopez who works collaboratively to better the whole county. Please vote Katherine Bryant Ingman for the generational change, energy and vision we need on council and for our county’s future.
