Letter to Editor | My endorsement for Katherine Bryant Ingman for County Council, District 3

Katherine Bryant Ingman has my support to be our next San Juan County Council Representative for District 3 for many reasons:

Every SJC District Representative is sworn to support the welfare of the entire San Juan County.  I firmly believe, as shown by Katherine’s efforts to reach out to the Waldron, Shaw, Decatur, San Juan and Orcas communities throughout her campaign, that Katherine has demonstrated her energy, interest, and willingness to do that very thing.

Katherine also understands the need to listen to, and assist, each island  community in District 3 with their specific needs.
I am confident that Katherine has a wide range of experience with the most important factors of our island county: the need for affordable housing; accessible health care; public school education; reliable ferry operations; and upgrades and increased diversity in our energy resources.

What sets Katherine apart?  She has lived these issues and worked on them firsthand. She has been a leader with the development of the Lopez Food Share, ensuring food access for many Lopezians; her  leadership on the Catherine Washburn Medical Association has been key to ensuring health care access for everyone in our small rural community. She coaches the Lopez Lobos track team, supporting our school while teaching and encouraging our young people, the future leaders for our county.  Katherine has done all of this while working full time.

I am very pleased to know Katherine as a neighbor, and as a strong leader and voice for so much of the critical infrastructure we have here on Lopez Island. Our community is stronger because of her involvement.

It’s time for new thoughts and new energy to take San Juan County into the future.
