OLYMPIA – To support Washington’s request for federal assistance following this summer’s devastating wildfires, Governor Bob Ferguson is sending a video to the Trump Administration to help show the severity of the damage.

The video is available for download here, and features interviews with impacted residents, and bipartisan leaders calling on the federal government to approve Washington’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration.

The Governor’s Office produced a similar video following the historic flooding in December to support Washington’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration. That request was granted.

“Federal assistance is critical as our communities work to recover from these fast-moving wildfires,” Governor Ferguson said. “We are doing everything we can to strengthen our case. My team and I are laser-focused on helping people recover from this disaster.”

Governor Ferguson has requested two types of FEMA assistance: Individual Assistance to help Washingtonians cover their emergency costs, and Public Assistance to clean up debris and repair damage to infrastructure including roads, bridges and utilities.

A preliminary damage assessment conducted by the Washington State Emergency Management Division, FEMA and local jurisdictions across the four counties found the fires:

Governor Ferguson’s request is supported by bipartisan letters from every member of Washington’s congressional delegation, and the leaders of all four state legislative caucuses.
