During the Fourth of July Parade, MC Ken and I are asked to impromptu add things via the public address system. Sometimes we can and sometimes we are just juggling a whole bunch while also announcing the parade entrants.  We intended to mention the Mercy Pilot Program but got too busy. Please allow me to take this time to pass along a very important message.

The Mercy Pilots are a small group of local pilots who fly people and their family members to the mainland and back for medical treatment, thereby avoiding the ferries. These pilots donate their time and airplanes, and their only compensation is donated fuel for each flight. Please help these pilots to serve our community by helping to fund their fuel costs.

My family has personally benefited from Mercy Flights and I understand their value. We pray you will never need the generous gift provided by only a handful of pilots, but if you should you will be most appreciative of an hour mainland trip versus a twelve hour off island doctor visit – especially rough when you are ill. Some of these pilots have even driven patients to their appointments and/or waited for them with their own mainland “airport vehicles.”

The Mercy Pilots have flown nearly 170 flights already this year and we are only at July. Please donate to: Orcas Aviation Association, P.O. Box 712, Eastsound, WA 98245

More pilots are needed, too!
