I am writing to urge Orcas voters to join me in approving the levy lid lift on our April special election ballot that will help fund the mission of Orcas Island Fire & Rescue. In designing this levy, the newly elected Board of Fire Commissioners took into consideration the concerns that led to Orcas voters rejecting the earlier proposed levy.
This one applies for five years only; it is not permanent. At $0.77, it is lower than the prior proposed levy. It addresses critical needs, like staffing and EMS coverage. It will be allocated for specific operational purposes, allowing time for the OIFR Board of Commissioners to explore the best way to secure financing of future capital needs.
All in all, this levy proposal answers the call for a common-sense approach to funding this critical community service on which we all rely for our safety and health. Please vote YES!
