I am excited to be able to endorse a candidate for county council who has a lifelong career in public service. Kari McVeigh has the values I care about.
I first met Kari through our local Soroptimist organization and know her to be an intelligent and collaborative team member. She is a caring person, and an effective communicator. Kari will stay in touch with, and listen to, her staff and her constituents.
We are also fortunate to have a candidate with experience managing budgets of over $100 million, which Kari successfully did in her position as school superintendent in California. San Juan County government needs someone with experience in managing a large organization.
Her position as a school superintendent on San Juan Island and on Shaw Island involved working with our state legislators for school funding, and she will be an effective advocate on our county’s behalf. All of the 40th District legislators have endorsed Kari for county council.
I am impressed by Kari’s success in getting grant funding for teacher housing on Shaw Island, demonstrating that she goes above and beyond in meeting expectations and finding solutions to our community’s problems. I appreciate her dedication and involvement. She will be an outstanding county council member.
Please vote for Kari McVeigh. We need her.

…and I appreciate the fact that Kari (unlike her opponent) endorses the Land Bank, not only for its affordable housing connection, but for its intrinsic value of nature conservation.
