Letter to Editor | Jennifer Swanson is genuine, helpful, generous

I have known Jennifer Swanson for the better part of two decades. When I think of her, I think of her generosity and helpfulness the most. I have worked with her in several capacities and also consider her a dear friend— I admire her immensely. She is a notably active listener, a direct and caring communicator, and remains kind and calm through intensity. Her care shines in every aspect of her hard work. Her patience, understanding, finely tuned moral compass and deep care for all the earth’s inhabitants are unmatched. 

On any given day you can find Jennifer engaging with her community— not because she feels any sense of obligation but because she genuinely wants to. She’s been at the center of advocating for Islanders for years. I know that her extensive experience will set her up perfectly for being on the county council. During her campaign she has visited communities, events and engaged with people not because she wants their vote but because she genuinely honors the connection to all county residents. She has put in an incredible effort to learn how to best represent us. 

During this campaign, Jennifer’s  opponent hasn’t engaged with the Shaw community (the second most populous island in her district) at all. Conversely, Jennifer has been to every possible event, on all islands— and that shows how she will hold herself accountable for the San Juan Islands community as a whole.

I could write a book about how I wish we had more political candidates like Jennifer. I am looking forward to Tuesday because I hope we elect someone who is not only an indelible leader but one of the best people I know. Vote for Jennifer Swanson.
