||| FROM ORCAS EDUCATION FOUNDATION BOARD |||
The Orcas Island Education Foundation (OIEF) Board believes that one of the most important things we can do is invest in our children’s future. For over 40 years, OIEF has helped enhance the OI public schools through our fundraising efforts. There are some needs, however, that are so essential, and so large that it takes the entire community to pull together to sustain them. That’s why we strongly support the two school levies on the upcoming ballot. These measures are not just numbers on a page—they’re a commitment to safe, welcoming schools and opportunities for every student.
Capital Projects Levy will not fund new buildings. It will, however, allow for much-needed safety and site improvements for students, staff, and families. Over six years (2026–2031), it will provide stable funding for Capital enhancements like: FINALLY fixing the potholes in the parking lot, improving traffic flow, creating better outdoor learning spaces, and enhancing accessibility.
Educational Programs & Operations Levy: State funding covers 83% of costs; this levy provides the remaining 17% of OISD’s budget. It will help fund teachers, counselors, nurses, music, athletics, special needs programs, CTE, and safe schools. If the levy fails to pass, the district will face cuts to staff, programs, and services for students.
Strong schools mean a stronger, more connected community. Please join us in voting YES for our students and their future.
