Rick Hughes has the experience, commitment, and community focus we need on our SJC Council

I have had the privilege to work with Rick Hughes for more than 15 years.  I know he is a man with absolute integrity and a deep sense of community.  He has worked hard to develop connections at local, state and federal levels because he knows how important those relationships are to meeting the needs of our community. 

Every time I talk with Rick about a local topic from the roads to the senior center, public health to the land bank, or affordable housing to ferries, I am amazed at the breadth of his knowledge and the strength of his ideas. 

I did not agree with every decision Rick made when he served on the county council previously but I have always respected his approach. He takes the time to know what is important to people on every island in this county, on a wide range of topics.  In discussing topics, he takes the time to listen to concerns, consider ideas, share his knowledge on the topic and explain his rationale.  Nine times out of ten, I come away better informed on the topic and with a better understanding of how those decisions supported a broader group in our islands.

I’m voting for experience and leadership.  I am voting for someone I know has the ability to stay deeply in touch with his local community while navigating challenges at the county, state and federal levels.  I am voting for someone who is committed to listening, learning from, and representing every member of our community.

Bottom line for me, Rick knows and loves these islands and he is who I want representing me on our council.
