Comte Ory disguised as a Hermit in Rossini’s” Le Comte Ory”

With a legendary mix of this and that, the Metropolitan Opera finds an excuse for a romp with Rossini’s Le Comte Ory. The Met’s Summer Encores continue with Rossini’s comic opera On Screen at Orcas Center Friday, June 29 at 7:30 pm.

Rossini’s penultimate stage work, Le Comte Ory, belongs to the tradition of sexy scoundrel operas, along with such works as Don Giovanni, and Threepenny Opera.

Reviving his role  in Le Comte Ory,  the comic sensation of the 2010–11 season, tenor Juan Diego Flórez once again demonstrates his unsurpassed bel canto mastery in this vocally dazzling comedic Rossini gem, rediscovered—and reinvigorated—in Bartlett Sher’s “ lively, colorful, inventive and witty production. “ New York Times

Le Comte Ory follows the exploits of a libidinous young nobleman, Le Comte, and his band of knights, who weasel their way into a French convent during the Crusades, and is hailed as one of Rossini’s wittiest and most seamless and sophisticated works.

Maurizio Benini leads the Met ensemble, which includes Diana Damrau as Countess Adèle, the superb mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the “trouser” role of the page Isolier, and Stephane Degout as the raffish Raimbaud.

Tickets for Le Comte Ory are $15 for adults and $11 for students. $2 off for Orcas Center members and may be purchased on the website or by calling  376-2281 ext. 1 or visiting the Orcas Center box office during box office hours which are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon- 4 pm.
