EVERETT, WA – Today, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) announced Washington state will receive more than $6.49 million in federal funds to bring down heating and cooling costs for working families. These investments, secured through last month’s bipartisan government funding legislation Larsen supported, will help lower Washingtonians’ energy bills, provide crisis assistance and protect homes from extreme weather.
“As working families in the Second District grapple with rising energy prices, I am working to lower costs and ensure homes remain safe and comfortable,” said Larsen. “Thanks to the bipartisan omnibus spending bill, this fourth round of federal energy assistance will help families pay energy bills, bring down costs and protect homes.”
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services administers this funding under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). These investments are critical for low-income households and communities of color who are often more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
Second District residents can apply for LIHEAP energy assistance at the following agencies:
- Lummi Indian Business Council
- Opportunity Council
- Samish Indian Nation
- Skagit County Community Action Agency
- Snohomish County Human Services Department
- Swinomish Indian Tribal Community
This funding is the fourth round of LIHEAP assistance over the past year. Since May 2021, Larsen has secured more than $151.18 million in energy assistance for households across Washington state, including more than $86.2 million from the American Rescue Plan and more than $1.05 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Another government complete waste of our tax dollars. You don’t solve a problem by dealing with the result – you solve it be dealing with the cause. Our Democrat administration is the direct cause of the problem by the over regulation and elimination of access to our abundant petroleum resources. This caused the price of gas to skyrocket and of course that cost was passed on directly to all the infrastructure of our delivery system ‘for everything’ and the end consumer. The result – a significant decline in the purchasing power of everyone.
So now the government comes up with a solution to a problem they created. How many times do we have to see this happen? Their solution – another give away of money they don’t have. We know that 90% of those funds will go to agencies and ‘friends’ of the administration to ‘manage’ the money so maybe 10 Percent will actually get to those that need it. The results: create more government control, make more people dependent on the government and flood more money into the economy and create more inflation. It’s a vicious circle that solves nothing.
Mr. Waunch should know that “Democrat” is a noun, not an adjective. So, for example, Rick Larson is a Democrat who belongs to the Democratic party. Dating back to the 1960’s, if not before, whenever Republicans speak pejoratively of the opposition, they use phrases like “Democrat party.”
Regardless of your English lesson Bob, Mr. Waunch is absolutely correct.
I agree with Bob;
but would like to also call attention to the curtailing of our own energy resources,
necessitating buying energy from the likes of Venezuela, Russia.
How stupid is this?!
