Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), Ranking Member on the House Subcommittee on Aviation, [yesterday] announced that the Port of Orcas has been awarded a $2,004,466 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to help improve the safety and operations at Orcas Island Airport.
“Orcas Island Airport is an economic engine for both the Island and the region, and these resources will help the airport thrive,” said Larsen. “In Washington state, transportation means jobs and investing in airports like Orcas helps support good jobs and keeps our economy moving.”
This grant will support the rehabilitation of Orcas Island Airport’s pavement and runway, improve drainage to better handle stormwater runoff, and replace its existing Automatic Weather Observing System III to enhance safety by providing accurate, current, and site-specific weather information.
