— from Coffelt Farm Stewards —
Kaleidoscope Summer Day Camp for Elementary Students visited Coffelt Farm twice this month. Students were delighted with a tour of the farm led by the foreman, Casey McKenzie. The students explored the barnyard, learning about mid-summer activities on a sustainable farm, and met the animals — even practicing how to call in the sheep from pasture.
Coffelt Farm Stewards is dedicated to preserving the rural life islanders cherish. Bringing in the next generation to meet the chickens, cows, sheep, and pigs and explore acres of the bucolic outdoors is a key part of the mission of the Farm Stewards.
The Coffelt Farm Stewards operates a 185 acre working farm in Crow Valley producing island grown fruit and vegetables, grass-fed raw milk, pastured eggs and pork, grass-fed lamb and beef, sheepskins, and wool products. The mission of Coffelt Farm Stewards is to demonstrate sustainable, small-scale agricultural practices, promote environmental stewardship, and provide opportunities for education and research, while honoring Orcas Island’s rural heritage.
Stop by (1071 Crow Valley Road) to check out the latest island grown food selection. The farm stand is open Tuesday – Saturday, 1pm – 5pm. Raw milk, pastured eggs, and garden produce are available self-serve at the stand from dawn ’til dusk. Please feel free to contact us at stewards@coffeltfarm.org or (360) 376-3410.
