Sara Kissel

Last Wednesday evening, April 27, 2022 our beautiful Sara Kissel left us. It was completely unexpected, and everyone is still reeling from this terrible tragedy. Many many folks have reached out, asking if there was a way to donate financially to show support during this time. After some consideration, we decided to set up this gofundme. We are aware that when tragedy strikes, people feel a need to rally around and show their support however they can. Financial support is always a huge stress relief at times like this, and we are so grateful for everything.
Sara was a powerhouse. She was a relentlessly hard worker, and the financial loss for the Kissel family will be significant. Sara’s older two children have returned to Orcas to be with their father, younger brother, and each other while they grieve, which means lost income for them and for Logan. They have rents to cover, car payments to make, and land payments for their family home here on Orcas. They are also facing the airlift costs as Sara was not insured, which, as we all know, will be astronomical. Financial support at this time will alleviate that pressure and allow them to properly grieve their wife/mother and support one another while they figure out how to navigate life without Sara.
Everyone who knew Sara loved her. She lived on Orcas nearly her whole life and was a well-known and valued member of our island community. She was a level-headed, no-nonsense, loyal, and dedicated person. She fed hundreds, employed many, and showed up for any person she believed in. Her loss hurts, and she will be sorely missed.
Thank you, all of you, for showing up for her family now. The target goal is just an arbitrary number. Every single cent will be a blessing put to good use for her family.

Please come celebrate with family and friends at the Cascade Lake shelter on Tuesday May 3 at 4:20. This is an island style potluck, please bring your own utensils, etc. Park passes also required. It would mean so much to see new and old friends there.
