Jim Shaeffer-Bauck conducts Island Sinfonia at Orcas Center on May 21
Island Sinfonia, the inter-island chamber orchestra in the San Juan Islands, will be performing an exciting mix of old and new music at the Orcas Center on Sunday, May 21, at 3 pm. Tickets are available at the box office for $10 and students are free.
The concert will feature several pieces for our brass section, including Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” “Cor Royale” by Bach, and “Sakura,” a traditional Japanese piece.
Sinfonia is also pleased to feature two of our members in solo pieces. Cellist Jennifer Utter, who works as the physician’s assistant for Dr. David Shinstrom, is performing the second movement for Dvorak’s “Concerto for Cello.” Our concertmaster, Noah Atchley from Friday Harbor, is performing “Romanze” by Beethoven. Noah studies with Martin Friedmann, a renowned violinist and father
of Aloysia Friedmann, founder of the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival.
The orchestra is also performing music from Leroy Anderson, Shostakovich, and “The Wizard of Oz.”
A reception will follow the hour-long program.
