The popular Anniversary Celebration for Island Hardware and Supply, Inc. is this Saturday, June 20, at 21 West Beach Road.

In previous years, the store’s birthday was called an anniversary sale. “This year it’s more of a celebration. We’re celebrating ‘Our America’ and our friends,” says Paul Garwood. The celebration will begin — as it does every year — with the fantastic pancake breakfast, beginning at 7:30 and ending at 10:30 a.m., prepared and served by the Orcas Island Kiwanis Club.

Now well-fortified, birthday celebration guests can then take advantage of the 20% reduction for cash sales (except power tools, fuel and specialty items) or 20% reduction of the already marked-down “Bargain Alley.”

Parents are encouraged to bring their children along for the ride; there will be plenty to keep them occupied while the grown-ups do their shopping. Prizes are awarded at the nail-driving and tape-measuring contest.

And two of the store’s most popular anniversary events will be back this year – store employee Woody will again preside over remote-controlled race cars for the kids swarming around to race the high-end models.

Basalite cement company attends the event every year and provides some fun for the kids in making rapid-set stepping stones, using the rocks, beads, beach glass and other items the kids bring to make the steeping stones to take back home with them.

Feeling hungry again after all that work? Then head on over to enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by the celebrity contractor of the year. Don’t forget to have him sign your bun! Listen to some music by Dr. Dirty and the Band du Jour as you regain your strength.

Many vendors will be at the celebration to help with product questions and concerns. Free knife and/or scissor sharpening (limit of 6 – mark each item with names) will take place while your shop, mingle and fill out entries at the door prize section for a chance to win a variety of goodies.

If you want to see the folks from our island having fun, head over to Island Hardware and Supply from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. where the place will be hopping at their “Our America” celebration.
