A Celtic Christmas comes to the Community Church Dec. 2 and 3

For the whole community

From Pastor Dick Staub

Once again The Community Church welcomes the entire Orcas Island Community to the 2011 version of Windham Hill recording artist Jeff Johnson’s Celtic Christmas, a rich, sonic tapestry of Celtic, Gregorian, Classical and Contemplative sacred music.

This year Jeff is joined by The Coram Deo Ensemble, a unique, international collaboration of Johnson; Irish flutist, Brian Dunning; American violinist and Wendy Goodwin along with soprano Janet Marie Chvatal and German baritone, Marc Gremm who will perform on Orcas Island for the first time.

Marie Chvatal and Gremm sang the leading roles in musical productions in Vienna and Stuttgart, including the Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables and starred most recently as Kaiserin Elisabeth and KÖnig Ludwig in the German musical,  Ludwig.

The ensemble’s newest CD is entitled, Antiphon – Latin for a psalm, chant or hymn responsively sung in worship. Featuring the full ensemble, Antiphon is a beautifully sublime mix of new material including a bonus track recorded live in Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany.

Dick Staub, pastor at The Community Church said “This a great way to bring in the Holiday season,” adding, “last year both nights were packed, so anyone wanting to attend should register right away!”

Don’t miss this wonderful event, which is open to the whole community. So there is room for all, Celtic Christmas will be performed on both Friday December 2and Saturday December 3 7 p.m. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10 per person.

Registration is required. Register online (https://www.thekindlings.com/ (go to the Celtic Christmas Tab) or call the church office (360-376-6422).
