Following the certification of the primary, I want to thank every voter across San Juan County who took the time to participate in this election. San Juan County continues to show what engaged, active citizenship looks like, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that takes local government seriously.
I’m honored that my home district, District 3, backed my campaign in a landslide victory, winning by over 26%. Where people know the candidates best, they made a very clear choice. Through years of living, working, and building relationships on Lopez Island, I’ve earned that trust, and it means everything to me.
At the same time, I recognize there is more work ahead. My relationship with voters across the rest of San Juan County isn’t yet what it is with my Lopez Island neighbors, and I’m committed to earning that same familiarity and trust throughout every part of our county between now and the general election in November.
Thank you for your support and thank you for engaging in this process. I look forward to continuing these conversations with all of San Juan County in the months ahead.

Some “landslide.” she only got between 50-60% of the vote on her home island, while Jennifer Swanson outpolled her countywide by 443 votes, or 6%. On her home island, Shaw, where she is best known, Swanson won nearly 90% of the votes. Hard to trust a candidate who claims a “landslide” based on these results.
Congratulations Katherine! My husband and I live on Orcas. We’ve heard about some of your positions regarding health care, housing and ferry improvements. It all sounds great to us and would benefit everyone on all the islands. We look forward to meeting you and hearing more when you come to Orcas.
I’m puzzled. Jennifer Swanson’s opponent is claiming she won a “landslide” victory. Yet the final election tally shows that Jennifer Swanson won every precinct in the county but three. That’s 20 of 23. If anyone should be touting her primary victory It’s Jennifer. But she isn’t. Instead, she’s gotten right back to work meeting with voters across the county. She and her campaign team are living in this universe, the one that includes all the islands in San Juan County.
