— from Alison Weir —
Torrey Best Joyce, best friend to many, died a few days before Thanksgiving of 2013 at age 58. Raised in Maryland, she went on to travel and live in several corners of the world, before making Orcas her new home in 2010.
Torrey graced our island as a talented artist and crafter, enthusiastic musician, amazing cook, and a dedicated nature lover and protector of wildlife. She was a tireless and cheerful volunteer for the Senior Center, Wolf Hollow, and many other organizations.
She had a special knack for bringing strangers together to become fast friends, and with her good humor, generosity, and intense love of life was greatly loved by many.
Torrey had boundless energy and loved to dance and sing (including karaoke). Her waltz through life was too brief for all those who knew and loved her. She is greatly missed.
Torrey is survived by her father, sister, two brothers, sister-in-law, niece and nephew, and longtime friend and companion, Al Shaughnessy.
There will be a celebration of Torrey’s wonderful life on Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at the West Sound Community Club. All are welcome.
